The majority of the Epaulet Series are thrown and assembled, raku fired earthenware. This method of pottery making occupied much of my time during the middle to late 1990s. The epaulet in western dress and costume is an indicator of rank, status, or prestige such as those of an admiral or the oversized shoulder pads of a business woman's "power suit."
